We are excited to hear that your child is interested in being a part of our band program at Indian Trail. Here are some things to keep in mind as we prepare for the coming school year:
We are so excited to invite our new band students to Indian Trail! Here is information on what to expect in the next few days:
· Monday is a half day for students, so our first day in band class will be Tuesday. · The band information packet will be distributed on Tuesday. Please take time to read this information with your child and return the front page signed as soon as possible. Your child will keep the remaining pages in their band binder. · Students will need to bring instruments to band beginning Thursday, August 8th. Students will have band lockers to store their instruments during the day, but daily home practice is expected. Your child’s hall teachers will inform the students when they will be allowed to retrieve instruments from the band room. · All instruments with the exception of baritone are allowed on school buses. Baritone players will use school instruments and transport the mouthpiece between school and home. For those students who completed an instrument fitting but have not yet obtained an instrument: Music Doctors in Kingsport (423-246-6220) is still offering their rent-to-own program. In addition, we have been contacted by a few parents in the community looking to sell used instruments. For contact information, please email Mrs. Tidwell. **For those students who did not complete an instrument fitting**: Your child has been placed in a brass (trumpet and trombone) or woodwind (flute and clarinet) class. Next week, we will be fitting your child for one of the instruments taught in their assigned class. Please do not purchase an instrument until your student has completed the instrument fitting process. Once your child has been fitted, you will receive information on obtaining an instrument. Please feel free to email with any questions you may have, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Keila Brady Tidwell Good afternoon,
We hope that everyone had a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning at our Meet and Greet! Since Monday is a half day, our first day of band will be on Tuesday. 6th grade students will need to bring instruments on Wednesday, August 7th. In addition, students will need to bring the following materials each day: · Essential Elements Book (given to students last year) · ½ inch 3-ring binder · Ten sheet protectors with holes · Pencil Percussion students will receive an additional email about equipment needs for the first few days of school, however they will still need to bring a binder with the sheet protectors and a pencil. Please take time to read the information packet your child receives and return the only the front page signed – students will keep the remaining pages in their band binder. Thanks, Keila Brady Tidwell Good afternoon, Thank you so much for attending one of our instrument fittings last week – we truly enjoyed getting to meet you and your child! I am attaching a copy of the beginner camp info in case you did not receive it. Going forward, please do not hesitate to email me with any questions you may have about obtaining an instrument, registering for beginner camp, etc. Thank you, and have a great week!
Our instrument fitting dates for rising 5th grade students will be Tuesday, April 30th and Thursday, May 2nd in the band room at Science Hill High School (the first building off of John Exum Parkway). Each night will have two meeting times: 6:00 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. and 7:25 to 8:45 p.m.
In order to attend a meeting, you must register for a date and time by emailing Mrs. Tidwell: [email protected] A brief introduction to the program and instructions for the fitting will be given at the opening of each meeting. Music Doctors will present a rental program while students complete the instrument fitting process. It is very important for each student to begin on an instrument that will give them the most amount of success at the start of their instrumental experience—we advise they try at least three instruments. The instruments offered in 5th grade band are: flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and baritone. *French horn, tuba, saxophone and percussion instruction will begin in 6th grade.* After the screening, the director will assist the student and parent on making an instrument selection. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you soon!
